December 2017

Updated: Jun 6, 2018

December 2 We started cat-sitting Chrissy’s parent’s cat (this information is important for what happened on December 24th)

December 3 Kayson’s 2nd Birthday We celebrated Kayson’s birthday with cake, ice cream and presents. He got a cool new motorized Thomas the Train. We met up with Greg and Lynette to attend a live nativity program. It was a wonderfully spiritual evening.

December 4 Kayson had his 2 year doctor appointment. He weighed 24 pounds (seventh percentile), and was 32 inches tall (sixth percentile). Although he is a small little guy he has a big smile!

December 7 We attended our Ward’s Christmas party. It was a Polar Express theme so of course Kayson had a good time. Kayson got to sit on Santa’s lap and although he was not as frightened as he was last year, he was still a little nervous about it. The candy cane and jingle bell he received made up for it though.

December 17 We attended the awesome Lyman Family Tasting Table event at Kalanni’s house. We ate more food than we should have but we’ve been told that Christmas calories don’t count.

December 23 We started a new Christmas Read-A-Thon tradition this year. The tradition started because of Kevin’s fond childhood memories of reading Calvin and Hobbes comic books under the Christmas lights. A Christmas Read-A-Thon is just what it sounds like! The tradition involves setting up a tent in the living room. We turn off all the lights except for the Christmas lights. In the tent we read the Christmas story in The Book of Mormon and the Bible. Then each child receives a new book. Mom brings out a fun holiday basket full of Christmas books and everyone in the family reads for thirty minutes-or however long attention spans last.

Christmas Read-A-Thon

December 24 Christmas Eve this year was on Sunday so we attended an hour long Sacrament meeting. Kayson decided it would be fun to put his motorized train on the cat’s fur. You can guess what happened--the wheels got stuck in the fur, leading to a new Christmas haircut for said cat.

Later we had Chrissy’s sister and brother-in-law over for dinner and games. We played Apples to Apples and Bean Boozled. Bean Boozled is a game where each person spins for a jelly bean…. But, not just any jelly bean. Want to try a barf flavored jelly bean? Anyone? You can get either a lime flavored bean or a lawn clippings bean. Also berry blue or toothpaste, strawberry-banana or dead fish, juicy pear or booger, butter popcorn or rotten egg, chocolate pudding or canned dog food, caramel corn or moldy cheese, coconut or spoiled milk, tutti-fruitti or stinky socks, peach or barf. Yes there was a garbage can readily available for involuntary gagging and spitting. Chrissy thinks the barf and dead fish ones are the worst and Kevin can’t stomach the rotten egg one. After Kayson was in bed we watched the same movie we watch every Christmas Eve, “It’s A Wonderful Life.”

December 25 We slept in (and that will probably be the last time we can on Christmas morning). We opened presents and relaxed at home. Chrissy was excited to get a violin for Christmas and Kevin was excited to get a mini Nintendo console that has 600 retro games on it. He was super excited to play the original Mario games.

December 26 We had a nice Christmas dinner with the Lymans and enjoyed the traditional gift exchange. Kayson had fun playing with his cousins.
