October 2018

October 6-7 There were some exciting announcements made in General Conference. President Nelson announced a change to the Sunday meeting schedule. Starting in January 2019, instead of a three-hour block it will be a two-hour block. He urged individuals and families to use the extra time for scripture study. He said that a new curriculum will be integrated, a home-centered and church supported program. We are excited to start studying the gospel more fully at home!

In Women’s Conference President Nelson invited the women to participate in a 10-day fast from social media, read the Book of Mormon by the end of the year and mark scriptures that reference the Savior, establish a pattern of regular temple attendance, and participate fully in Relief Society.

During the Sunday morning session, President Nelson emphasized the importance of using the correct name of the Church; The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He emphasized that we as members should not be referring to the church as The Mormon Church or the LDS Church. Even the Mormon Tabernacle Choir changed their name to The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.

President Nelson’s announced 12 more temples, the most temples ever announced in General Conference! Mendoza, Argentina; Salvador, Brazil; Yuba City, California; Phnom Penh, Cambodia; Praia, Cape Verde; Yigo, Guam; Puebla, Mexico; Auckland, New Zealand; Lagos, Nigeria; Davao, Philippines; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Washington County, Utah.

October 9 We went to Jaker’s Pumpkin Patch in Springville. We got lost in a maze, enjoyed a tractor ride, went down a tunnel slide, bought some pumpkins, and played in a giant corn pit. When we got home we were still finding corn stuck in every imaginable place on our bodies.

October 15 We got family pictures taken in Hobble Creek Canyon. The pictures turned out great!

October 16 We had a professional videographer take video of us for our adoption profile. We went to International Peace Gardens in Salt Lake. It was chilly and Kayson was hungry and tired so of course he didn’t want to participate.

October 20 The city of Orem had their annual "Touch A Truck" event. Since Kayson loves everything with wheels we just had to attend! They had all sorts of cool vehicles for kids (and adults) to sit in and admire. They had a garbage truck, ambulance, FBI truck, police car, utility truck, fire truck, cement truck, tractors, a bus, etc. We had a blast, especially Kayson. He got to sit in the back of a police car and we told him we hope that it's the last time he sits in one.

Greg and Lynette gave us two tickets to Scera to see comedian and musician Jason Hewlett. Jason was hilarious! We even saw our friends from the Single’s Ward there, Jordan and Amanda Calderwood. We decided to extend our evening with a double date at Winger’s. We enjoyed free asphalt pie!

October 22 We converted Kayson’s crib to a toddler bed and he transitioned very well.

October 27 Chrissy’s dad and step-mom came down from Logan and took us to Hee Haw Pumpkin Patch in Pleasant Grove. We saw a lot of farm animals, including a massive 500 pound pig! Kayson got to sit in a tractor, ride a pony (the pony’s name was Bear), pet rabbits, and feed the goats. We also watched the pumpkin drop. They raised a 1,000 pound pumpkin 175 feet in the air and dropped it onto a car. It was oddly satisfying to watch. After having a lot of fun at the pumpkin patch we went to dinner at Chick-Fil-A.

October 30 We took Kayson to the dermatologist because we noticed a bump growing near his collarbone. It was quite a scare but the doctor assured us it’s most likely a benign cyst. He may need surgery to remove it at some point but we are waiting it out to see if it changes.

October 31 For Halloween this year we were some of the crew from the movie, Guardians of the Galaxy. Kevin was Rocket (the trash panda version), Chrissy was Gamora and Kayson made the perfect baby Groot! We attended our ward’s Trunk or Treat then visited with Greg and Lynette. They spoiled us with fresh donuts!
